Inspired by the unique design of the Yeopjeon, a historic Korean brass coin with a square cut out that’s been a symbol of tradition for centuries, our handcrafted coaster is a blend of timeless artistry and contemporary charm as it was created using the traditional Ottchil (Korean lacquer) technique.
We start with the purest raw lacquer, carefully extracted from the sap of Toxicodendron vernicifluum trees. This precious substance undergoes a filtration and refinement process before being delicately applied onto handpicked pieces of Fraxinus chinensis—known for its impeccable quality. Each coaster receives six layers of lacquer, meticulously applied and dried each time.
The crowning touch is the top layer, adorned with the bewitching Korean Mother-of-Pearl, a natural marvel that lends a holographic shimmer, as if a gift bestowed by Mother Nature herself.

- To maintain its pristine appearance, avoid using abrasive sponges or sharp cutlery, which may cause unwanted scratches.
- For the best results, we recommend allowing your Ottchil-treated items to bask in light, unadorned (i.e., without any object on the surface), for 3–4 days before their initial use. This enhances and preserves the original intense colors.
